Correct me if I am wrong but did I not hear on "Folk Hibernia" that Woody Guthrie, when asked the question "What is a folk song?" he replied "Three chords and the truth". Anyway I would love to know who were the people who composed, and no doubt ensured they were not lost, all the ancient songs we sing today.
