Tannahill had some nice verses, but what the hell, he wrote the original. Caroline's Tennessee version (collected from a Scottish woman, clearly) includes more of the original than old Francis MacPeake did in his now world-famous version. We're far from offended, Abby. In fact, I much prefer the tune of the Tennessee version. It's just that the MacPeake's version was the first one I heard, thus it was the one I recorded in 1959. Ask Caroline to sing the Tennessee one, next time we manage to get together. Beautiful! Then there's Jeannie Robertson's version... Then there's Carrie Grover's... Sandy
