Felipa Lyr Req: Vhair Me Oh / Bheir Me O (17) RE: Lyr Req: Vhair Me Oh / Bheir Me O 14 Feb 17

the Eriskay Love Lilt needs to be credited to Marjorie Kennedy-Fraser. I note that it appears that Kenneth MacLeod is credited with the Gaelic verses and M Kennedy-Fraser with the "English adaptation" in publication: < href=http://www.itma.ie/digitallibrary/book/29215-sm>http://www.itma.ie/digitallibrary/book/29215-sm

Eriskay Love Lilt is loosely based on a Gaelic song which George Seto refers to in his post. Quite a full set of lyrics is at http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/alltandubh/orain/Gradh_Geal.html and you can find other lyrics (Art Cormack and Ishbel Cormack in Scots Gaelic, na Casadaigh in Irish) at Celtic Lyrics Corner

GRÁDH GEAL MO CHRIDHE

Bheir mi ò hu ò,
Bheir mi ò hu o hì,
Bheir mi ò hu o hò,
'S mi fo bhròn 's tu gam dhìth.

'S iomadh oidhche fliuch is fuar,
Ghabh mi cuairt is mi leam fhìn;
Gus an d' ràinig mi an t-àite
Far robh gràdh geal mo chridh'.

'N àm bhith cromadh ris a' ghleann,
Thàinig snaidhm air mo chridhe;
Bho nach tug thu dhomh do làmh,
'S mi 'n dùil nach fhàgadh tu mi.

Na mo chlàrsach cha robh ceòl,
Na mo mheòirean cha robh àgh,
Rinn do phòg-sa mo leòn,
Fhuair mi eòlas air dàn.

Fada siar air aghaidh cuain,
'S e mo dhuansa Cruit mo Chridhe;
Guth mo luaidh anns gach stuaidh,
Ga mo nuallan gu tìr.

Dhèanainn treabhadh dhut is buan,
Chumainn suas thu gun dìth;
Bheirinn às a' ghreabhal chruaidh
Do mo luaidh teachd-an-tìr.

Ged nach eil sinn fhathast pòst',
Tha mi an dòchas gum bi;
Fhad 's a mhaireas mo dhà dhòrn,
Cha bhi lòn oirnn a dhìth.

Dh'fhàg thu silteach mo shùil,
Dh'fhàg thu tùrsach mo chridhe;
Dh'fhàg thu tana-glas mo shnuadh,
'S thug thu ghruag bhàrr mo chinn.
