Karl Dallas' book includes one song that I collected in eastern Tennessee from Abe Trivett: "That Crazy War." The last verse says
Wars may come and wars may go, Keep this on your mind: If ever there comes up another war, I'll be hard to find, In that war, that crazy war.
This was collected during the early days of the Vietnam protests, and old Mr. Trivett (82 years at the time) asked if I thought it was safe for him to sing it then. Ah, the power of federal intimidation!
