Bedworth Folk Festival (Midlands UK) End November |
http://www.bedworth-festival.info |
Folk Festivals |
Although over the years the Festival has grown into quite a large event it has still retained its unique “intimate” atmosphere: You can enjoy a whole week-end of music, song and dance for little more than the price of just a concert! - It’s a Festival to ”get involved in” - where the audience is (at least!) as important as the guests! - It's where the folk scene meets for its Christmas Party - for a good sing, dance and play, a good story, a good drink, some good company, and a really good time! - It’s the place to be at the end of the Festival season!
..... and it is the UK's biggest annual winter folk event!

The mandate of the organization is to develop year-round musical programs culminating in an annual festival, and to encourage meaningful connections between cultures, community groups, artists and audiences. Our vision for the organization is one that truly does consider and celebrate the heritage of this area. We intend to be inherently multi-cultural as a celebration of our unique history of settlement and our geography, which have combined to make a distinctive culture well worth celebrating. We will include history and geography in our programming in refreshing and interesting ways. Our concept for the Canadian Deep Roots Festival embraces the wide range of musical styles that fall under the general heading of roots music, and will present interesting themed workshops and programming projects that will feature performers playing together. The primary Website for the festival is http://www.deeprootsmusic.ca/ - but that URL seems to crash browsers.

Our resident singers' and musicians' material is mostly traditional, as are most of the guest performers we book, but we do like to hear other kinds of music as well, and very much appreciate visitors who perform contemporary, country, blues, or their own material. Even when our guest diary is full floor singers are especially welcome.
South Shields Folk Club was formed more than forty years ago and for many years was known as the Marsden Inn Folk Club. We reverted to the original name after leaving the Marsden Inn and for a few years we met at the Old Ship in Harton.
We will be meeting every Sunday evening at 7.30 pm in the South Shields and Westoe Club function room. This is also the home of Westoe Rugby Club, South Shields Cricket Club, and Westoe Lawn Tennis Club. It's in Dean Road and the postcode is NE33 4EA.

This is the direct link to the map.
It works better in the browser than 'Google
Maps'. http://goo.gl/rxmCXF
The main pins are for folk music,
instrumental sessions and dance but other
pins for 'OpenMic', storytelling, mumming
and writers links have been added too.
This map concentrates on Staffordshire but
also has pins in areas within easy driving
distance of Staffordshire.
It also has pins for other possibly
significant events and venues further
afield.

Gleanings Rural Study Centre for Folk Music, Art and Rural Crafts |

Workshops |
Our new rural study centre, on our 14 acre smallholding, is situtated in the heart of South Shropshire Hills and has been created to provide relaxed holiday courses with well-known tutors from the folk world - Mary Humphreys & Anahata - long weekend of Fenland tunes for melody instruments (preferably in the keys of D & G - melodeon friendly), Harvey Andrews - lyric writing, melody, and performance. Suitable for both beginners and seasoned veterans of all ages and both sexes, the emphasis is on enjoyment and shared activity.
, George Papavgeris - “Songwriting for the Unsuspecting”, John Kirkpatrick - looking at arrangements and accompaniments, for both songs and tunes, Pete Coe - Pete presents a series of informal themed workshops celebrating songs from English traditions including classic ballads, rural & seasonal songs, industrial & political broadsides and sea songs & shanties, etc., Cloudstreet - A week of song and skill-building with Nicole Murray and John Thompson who will guide you through the discovery and joy of song. Hopefully, Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy will have time to tutor a course - keep your eye on the website. The courses range from weekend to one week and lunches are included in the fee. The groups will be small and friendly - between 6 and 10 students as a rule. Caravans, Camper vans and tents are all welcome, or, alternatively we can provide a list of accommodation providers.
