I agree with most of the sentiment so far and I'd like to add my own particular rant about websites - here goes:

Your website can be as flashy as you like, but if it is badly designed in the first place, it will never be any good. I don't mean designed as in teh HTML/PHP/Javascript etc designed by the company you pay to do it for you, I mean CONCEPTUAL design - the most important part of navigation and usability.
Trouble is, this is something only YOU as the band can do... you need to decide on things like - do we have a gigs page? where is it linked from? what does it link to? etc. The most important thing is to enable people to find the info they are looking for, not some flashy gimmick. SIMPLICITY is your friend! So is CLARITY!
For this reason I am a big fan of site maps (if you want to see an example, go to my sitemap for me personal pages which would be even better if you could click on it...

Back to the Main Forum Page

By clicking on the User Name, you will requery the forum for that user. You will see everything that he or she has posted with that Mudcat name.

By clicking on the Thread Name, you will be sent to the Forum on that thread as if you selected it from the main Mudcat Forum page.

By clicking on the Subject, you will also go to the thread as if you selected it from the original Forum page, but also go directly to that particular message.

By clicking on the Date (Posted), you will dig out every message posted that day.

Try it all, you will see.
