Interesting stuff this but don't rely on the "incidental bit" since making space for music might be regarded as "provision of entertainment facilities". Having just lost a good (unlicensed) venue to a new landlord who wants to turn the pub into an extension of the funeral palour business have now found another with a private room upstairs - all go in as a "club" and sign in but this will be lost to the new legislation. Like many I find it hard to consider these new provisions without feeling very angry - point is do we have a single loud voice - I know the petition was ineffective in the end but 120,000 signatures are all voters and new labour are in some trouble! Is it worth a new protest e-petition reminding Downing Street how much Labour has lost through this bureacracy? Who would keep a data base of the effect of this act on pubs? Landlords are now expressing concern about a 22% hike in Sky subscriptions - this is free under the act but costs about £400 per month per pub to put on. Contrast this with the facilities laid on for "sessions" - usually sweet FA and Guiness Sales up by 100%.
