It was Christmas Day in the workhouse And the cold bare walls were bright With garlands of green and holly And the place was a pleasnt sight For with clean washed hands and faces In a long and hungry line The paupers sit at their tables For this is the hour they dine ... That's something like the first verse - anyone know the other twenty-odd? Apparently it was written in 1881 by Gerorge R Sims, but seems to be utterly unavailable, in print, today. Help gratefuly accepted !
