This they used with songs sung ashore to confuse anyone other than sailors.Hence the Comic songs which used nonsense phrases which seemed to refer to seaboard activity. When passengers were found aboard ship and they were asked not to Offend them they resorted using nonsense words to "Impress" others. This is Stan's explanation not mine.Mike.
