I have read your details most carefully and as someone who is older and wiser of the ways of the world and of men than you are, I shall make sure that my presents to you are of the most suitable and sensible kind for a young gel alone in a foreign country.
Miss Catsphiddle (I am not really sure I approve of that name by the way!) has at least exercised some common sense in giving me your name and I take it upon myself to ensure you are well equipped for your journeys through foreign parts.

I am at this moment working my way through the "Colonial and Foreign" section of "Peabodys essential guide for young women abroad" and should have your trunk of supplies packed and dispatched in short order.

In the meantime, do not speak to anyone who does not speak English, and be very suspicious of anyone not wearing a collar and tie. They are unlikely to be gentlemen and may wish to take advantage of your circumstances. As my late husband "The Colonel" used to say when we were out in Africa..........well maybe I shouldn't say it, we live in different times now.......sigh......
