I'm really enjoying "Joan of Arcadia." The premise is that God contacts a teenage girl and asks her to do things that she ordinarily wouldn't do, like get a job in a bookstore, learn chess, etc. These actions on her part end up causing other things to happen, which cause other things to happen ... and good comes out of it. God shows up as different people: a cute guy at school, a cafeteria lady, a postal worker, a streetsweeper. From that description it might sound like it's got two strikes against it: teen angst and syrupy religious platitudes (Touched By Dawson's Creek?), but give it a try. The characters' interactions are believeable, the writing is very, very good, and the religious aspect is philosophical not preachy. My favorite scene in the last episode was where God had asked Joan to learn chess and gave her a book. He shows up later and asks if she's read it. She replies, "Like you don't already know? 'Cain, where is your brother?' That's pretty passive-aggressive." [quote is approximate, not literal] And besides: the heroine's name is Joan! PoC who goes by Joan in Real Life (tm)
