A couple of months ago I heard Sheena Wellington sing Robert Burns'
"A MAN'S A MAN FOR ALL THAT"
("Is there for honest poverty") at the opening of the new Scottish parliament and was struck by how appropriate that song is as an anthem. I mean, we all knew it wasn't going to be FREEDOM COME ALL YE, and it might well have been any run-off-the-mill Jacobite (e.g. BONNIE BANKS O' LOCH LOMOND) or rugby chant (e.g. "Flowers of Scotland"). I suppose "Scots wa hae" would have served the purpose, but the pith o' sense an' pride o' worth are higher rank that a' that
Cheers, Håvard
