I heard once that JJN out-and-out wrote "Black is the Color"--I never enjoyed his singing. I do include in my repetoire his "Lizzie May"--I like to have a song at hand for any subject--and incest themes are rare. I didn't like the tune in his Ballad Book--so I reworked it and added "In the pines" for a chorus. (I am not what you would call a purist!) Bob
