A coworker of mine was out hunting and shot a deer in the chest. He could see large amounts of blood spurting from the wound but the deer ran a good eighth of a mile before it collapsed. Adrenaline can do that. I'm not a connoisseur of death scenes but I thought the end of Boromir one was probably one of the more believable.
