Deer can swim, too. Near the family cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin, I saw a deer jump in the water and swim to another point on shore maybe a quarter mile away. Someone speculated it was being chased by predators, but we didn't see any. Anyway, it doesn't seem like a reliable way to escape predators. Predators can swim, too, and probably more efficiently than a deer.
