While I share DaveO's preference for Windows XP, I prefer the "If it ain't broke" approach. If you have stablity problems with your '98 machine I would encourage an upgrade to XP, however I know several folks who swear by the reliablity of their Windows 98 computers - why mess with success? Also, I have not found any stablity differences in my XP boxes. I have 2 computers running XP Home and 2 that run XP Pro and all 4 are good, steady performers. In theory the only differences are some additional features that exist in Pro like support for VPNs, Dynamic volumes on hard disks, and multiple processors.
