This is the second brewery Scottish Courage have closed in 3 months, following the Fountain brewery in Edinburgh. Although closing the Newcastle brewery they have bought Federation brewery a much smaller site and brewlength. What with their purchase of a 30% share in Caledonian in Edinburgh and selling Theakstons back to the Theakston family there are some strange moves going on in the ScotCo boardroom. Mann's Brown Ale is not brewed by Ushers as Ushers was closed in 2000. Its brewed under contract by Burtonwood for the Innspired pub group. Dave some micros are producing brown ales but usually named distinctinely rather than as brown ales and the image that is often associated with that name. Stewart
