Not to nitpick, but yes, animals do behave this way. It is well documented that killer whales and cats will often "play with their food" causing serious injury and pain to their prey, allowing them to escape and then recapturing them for more "abuse". It has even been seen that they have left corpses of the animal uneaten where we used to believe that they only killed to obtain food. I pray for Mr. Berg and his family.
