erinmaidin how many songs in your repertoire? (72* d) RE: how many songs in your repertoire? 19 Jul 04

repertory: A stock of pieces that a person or company are prepared to perform.
I'm having a difficult time, in view of the above definition pulled out of one of those dusty old tomes referred to as dictionarys...that anyone is "prepared" to perform all of those songs! I would hope that the standards of singing because one can, and performing to an audience are two entirely different things. I can remember hundreds of songs but would never trot one into public without first taking it out and shining it up a bit....okay....nearly never.
And before someone corrects the spelling of "repertory", I'm only citing what was printed in the dictionary. It seems that a repertory was a storehouse or repository in which a theatre company would keep the pieces the troupe were prepared to perform. Repertoire is just a fancy way of saying it...
