GUEST,Charley Any open mic/'singaround' evenings? (UK) (4) Any open mic/'singaround' evenings? (UK) 25 Jul 04

Hi all,

I play in a melodeon & guitar duo and I'm on the lookout for some places to play at. We're fairly new to the concert scene so our plan is to find some open mic events to play at, probably folk club type things, to gain some experience and get ourselves heard and then see where that takes us. We'd be happy to audition or send a demo CD to organisers if they want (most of our gigging up till now has been with ceilidh bands, so we're not entirely familiar with how the folk club format works!).

Can anybody suggest/recommend any events which we could play at? We live in Sheffield but driving for a few hours in any direction is not a problem. We try to play as wide a variety of tunes as possible but we don't sing, I understand some folk clubs only welcome singers so those types of evening probably wouldn't be suitable for us.

Or can anyone suggest any other ways of getting gigs? We got some bookings through the New Roots competition this year, but we're getting close to the upper age limit for 'young performers' events.

Ta

Charley
