FYI: A dog shore is the strut which keeps the vessel and its poppets from sliding down the ways prematurely. In theory, a worker with a sledgehammer stands by and, as soon as the bottle breaks, strikes the shore out of the way, allowing gravity to send the launching cradle and vessel to the sea, river or other convenient water.
