What planet did you make those observations on, LH? I'll agree that life is not not vengeful or cruel. It's just life. Abundant and generous? Yeah, sometimes.

There's the dog-eat-dog aspect and the love-thy-neighbour aspect, but to try to say one holds sway over the other is pretty naive. People are wonderful and people are assholes — often in the same bodies and in the same day. You just have to sort out which is which as you meet them and decide which you want to be. Assigning a category to others is a dangerous waste of time unless you have some basis for deciding which is which. I'll always expect the worst and hope for the best. You live longer that way and enjoy the surprises much more....
