My daughter and I did a home made instrument workshop, the best one (because it required little prep and the kids needed very little help) was to put rice or bb's into plastic eggs, tape them shut and then cover with poly clay (ie Sculpey brand)they rolled the clay out wrapped the egg and then embellished. We took them home to bake them. The kids took home some beautiful animal or person shakers. They were free to design whatever they liked - used up most of my clay odds and ends that had been sitting around for years!
