Hi Don children used to wear wooden soled clogs -if they could afford shoes at all to make them last longer they often had metal segs put onto toes and heels if you kicked these against the cobbloed roads ( which we still have in Longwood) you could make sparks - hance kids would go 'sparking clogs' past tense 'sparked clogs'
