The version I knew said "for near a mile with Irish jaunting cars; and the whiskey flowed [note past tense] like buttermilk to fill our hearts with joy, and the piper played an Irish reel to greet a Yankee boy." Then follows a list of Irish names that I remember vaguely: "There came Branigan, Flanigan, Milligan, Gilligan, Duffy, McDuffy, ... Malone ... Dooley, O'Dooley, Muldoney, ... Pokerty, Hokerty, Rafferty, Lafferty, ..., ..., McGinniss, McGinn." Something like that! |
