I live in Kingston, Ontario, the lower (?) end of the Rideau system, where it flows into Lake Ontario. A week ago today, along with a group of seniors from Kingston we took a boat cruise on the Big Rideau Lake out of Portland. I think the cruise is still running and if you have the opportunity, I would highly recommend it. The Fall colours are just at their peak right now, and that in itself is an experience not to be missed.

On the subject of Gopher Baroque, I have known these talented ladies for many years, in fact they got their start playing with the Kingston Ceili Band during the early 80's. They perform some fine folk music, as well as some of their own, mostly folk-style compositions. The ladies are Dawn Callan and Jan Singleton, often augmented with other musicians.

I'm not aware of any musical sessions taking place for the next week or so, but if you're here on the 17th, there is a folk club, Sweet Folk All, takes place at the Epicure Restaurant near Princess and Clergy Sts in Kingston, starting at 7:00 p.m. Some good local folkies, and an open stage.
