beetle cat Folklore: Packaging-Lore (5) RE: Folklore: Packaging-Lore 07 Oct 04

i just remembered; if you got the black line on the inside of the gum wrapper, you would tare it in two, perpendicular to the black line. you would then take one piece, and count the number of characters on it (letters and numbers), but you would count alphabetically, not numerically. the first character being a, the second b, third c, and so on. when you have counted all of your characters, the one you ended on would be the initial of the boy that you should keep your eyes on, or the boy that you supposedly had a crush on, or had a crush on you, or something to that effect. sometimes we ended up with very unlucky letters.. so we claimed it to be the initial of the last name, and tried to think of someone more worth thinking of. yes, we were wicked little girls.

and similarly, there is the one with the can tab, where you move it up and down, counting letters until it falls off. the letter that it falls off on is the initial of a boy.

how about POGS? remember that? i have been told that Pog is a fruit drink, and people (hawaii?) would collect the part of the container that made the "pog" and play the game with it. sometimes you would get one that was extra thick.

any more ideas?????
