Re difference between English and Irish polkas:- When played for English dances you can usually step hop to them, bit like hornpipes. Went to a set dance years ago in Kerry, and the only difference I could see was in the stepping - the polka set, hornpipe set and reel set were ALL played at blinding speed. That's my take on it, anyway.
