Sharon is not going to remain in power. He is very hated today because of his unilateral withdrawl from Gaza and forced dismantling of settlements.

The Israelis that hate Sharon because of *this issue* are a very small proportion of the Israeli population. By and large, they are the extreme right wingers (to whom Sharon used to be the patron saint) and the ultra-Orthodox who believe that all of the territories were a gift from God to the Jews. Of course, those two groups are highly overlapping.

According to polls, more than two-thirds of Israelis support the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza.
