Arnie Naiman Review: Rick Fielding Strikes Again! (28) RE: Rick Fielding Strikes Again! 08 Nov 99

There are a few folk music heros that I regard with great respect for a number of reasons, and I'm proud to say that Rick is on my list - and so lucky that he lives in Toronto, and like others in this small music community we are lucky to know him as a friend. It was a fine and entertaining show (your right about the sound - those guys are really getting good at mixing acoustic music which is a fine art in itself). Rick is keenly aware of the community around him - doesn't put himself up on a pedestal like some other performers may do these days. He acknowledges and credits all his sources, fellow performers, and members of his community, making a concert feel like one big music party. He plays a lot of music that I like, with care and feel as well as great skill. I'm amazed that he will more often than not, pick out an incredibly difficult and challenging instrumental on guitar or banjo to perform, and not just settle for something easy. It is folks like Rick who make music interesting for all ears, and is an inspiration for many of us, continuing to be most important in passing this music along. Congatulations Rick- I'm gonna listen to your CD today. Good job Curly Boy! He had you workin there pretty good, but I could tell you were having a blast.
