Not alone this Thanksgiving after all! Just having a surprisingly good time with my roomie Peter. We went to the Mayflower Pub down in Rotherhide on the Thames in Southeast London, where the original Mayflower sailed from, and there was a big ceremoney going on at the church across the way to honour Christopher Jones the captain of that ship, who is also buried in the church cemetary (Which means he dropped everyone off at Plymouth Rock, and wisely turned round and came back to England). A "Blue Plaque" had been put up on the side of the church commemorating him and the day, and "The Great and Good" (lovely phrase, that) were all there for the occasion. I ended up getting quite tipsy with two of the former Mayor, and Mayoress' of the Borough of Southwark. Nice folks and boy, do they know their history!! We all toasted each other and gave thanks in the church under the shadow of a replica of the Mayflower (which the Mayoress whispered to me actually contained a drinks cabinet). Cheers all! ..xx..e (An ex-pat feeling right at home in Londontown.)
