I've got two reasons for starting this thread - firstly I've just come across a pretty cool site dedicated to 'Fiddle, Violin and Alternative Strings' by which it means all varieties of acoustic & electric fiddle/violin/viola etc etc. There have been quite a few threads on the 'Cat recently about fiddle technique & learning fiddle in general, and for anybody who is interested in the instrument or who wants to talk to other people about any aspect of it, I'd thoroughly recommend checking out this very comprehensive message board based site at http://www.fiddleforum.com/fiddleforum/index.php

It also contains a 'classified ads' section which brings me on to reason number 2 for starting this thread - I have a Bridge 'Lyra' 5-string fiddle for sale (£800 ono, good condition, with case, custom two tone blue, bought new by me in 2000 for £995 but now costing £1050 if you buy new from Bridge).
