I've been around some players in their late teens and early 20s for the past 3 or 4 years. The thing that I find very surprising is that they almost invariably use flat picks for their guitar playing. When I was young, 25 million years ago, everybody wanted to learn a finger picking style and be able to use those techniques to play like Libba Cotton, Merle Travis, John Hurt. Frankly, I'm disappointed because I think they're limiting themselves. They listen to my playing, admire it, but seem to have no interest in learning. Anybody else playing or working with younger people experiencing this?
