Hi,
Don't forget the 9-STRING GUITAR, invented, if that's the word, by the St. Louis Blues player J. D. Short. Also played by John Mayal, usually to much drunken applause.
I was so taken with it that I built one out a drugstore plywood six-string, mounting a strip of three tuners across the top of the headstock. I doubled the 1st, 2nd, and 4th strings by merely adding some new holes in the tailpiece and double notching the nut.
It sounded great for about 3 months until it distintegrated while I was playing it, with strings flailing everywhere and the bridge and tailpiece going by my nose at roughly 300 mph. The wooden body was nothing but splinters!
