Ewan MacColl wrote it about Salford didn't he, but the beauty of it (or of any good song) is that you can identify it with any grey, depressing, squalid industriallised town. I think the best take is Shane McGowan singing it. His whiskey-parched delivery gives a seedy edge to it that just works.
