As it said in 'Sing Out!' -
"Traditionally, each couplet is first sung by a soloist, then repeated by the group or audience. The first couplet is actually used as a refrain. Start with the first couplet and do it twice, once as a solo and then with group. Then do the second couplet the same way. Go back to the first. Then go on to the third which is sung to the tune of the second. Repeat the song while increasing the tempo. Finally, repeat the first couplet in half-time (slow, while the rhythm is fast).

Pronunciation guide:-
a = as in father i = ee bh = very soft b All r's should be rolled
Don't be disturbed by the absence of other chords. Harmonic accompaniments as we know them are unknown in Indian music. The desired quality of sound should be a drone rather than a choral pattern."
