Dave O You are correct. It is "bold seafaring lads who listen to my song". Variations include San Francisco instead of Liverpool. The San Fran. whalers were headed north to the bowhead grounds in the Western Arctic whereas the men from Liverpool would be right whaling in the lower Eastern Arctic regions. The song works for both places. Somewhat exagerated though- as no laterial pulling oar in a whaleboat would be 20 feet long. However, the steering or sweep oar could be up to 22 feet long.
