Course, the Irvings have had a long and happy relationship with the Liberals...for the benefit of any non-Canadians who have gotten this far, let me offer a couple of Canadianisms: "small-l liberals"--people with liberal politics, not in the Liberal Party. About which it was said a couple of decades back "you could take all the small-l liberalism in the Liberal party, fit it in a gnat's navel and still leave room for Trudeau's Mercedes." "small-c conservatives"--most large-L Liberals.
