The Australian version of this song were written near Rutherglen in NE Victoria, and the world knows them from the singing of David Lumsden, who learnt the song from his grandmother. Matryn Wyndham-Read heard David sing the song, and recorded it in the late 60's. David can tell the whole story. The song was written for/about Annie Thwaites.
