The Birthday Fairy

On every child's birthday
Whenever that may be
The fairy comes to visit them
Each one's goodness to see
At the first house, she looks in
And sees a child rich with things
With cake and cream and banners
"Happy Birthday" everyone sings
Knowing she's not needed
That this child already has enough

She moves on, ready at all times
To flick her wand and do her stuff
The next place is also large
But the child will not be satisfied
"Too little! Not enough!" is all the fairy hears
And at the end, the child cried
The good fairy was quite discouraged
Where there no good children in need of her?

But then her elf told her of another
And she ran to be there
It was a poor child's dwelling
Who had only an apple and lots of love

From her dear adoring family
Who hoped this was enough
And the good fairy wept a tear
For she knew that this birthday was true
There is no greater birthday party
Than to be surrounded by those who love you
