AFAIK, the expression "that's a trip" originated int he 60's during the phase of heavy experimentation with such mind-influencing drugs as LSD and whatchamacallit...psylocibin. The experience while under the influence was full of interesting distortions and alterations of time, and the effect was something like going on an expedition to WOnderland andthen coming "back". Things that were quirky or reminiscent of hallucinogenic experiences were "trippy". Dealers were often referred to as conductors in some places. A
