I'm not sure, with the better recording facilities available now, that we can specify 'anonymous' or forgotten who wrote it as criteria for the sobriquet 'traditional'. I know a song, the words of which were written in 1859. That would make it a strong contender for trad, but I know who wrote it. I also know who wrote the tune for it less than 100 years later.... so how is it classified? If you ask the library it's in their Traditional Folk song AND Modern composer sections.... I'm REALLY confused!!! LTS
