Now that I've got the hang of things, let's start again with my search for the above song. Some years ago I had Peter Dawson singing it. The first two lines were something like It's been 10 weary years since I left England's shore On a hot tropic island to raom. But, though I didn't know it then PD had a speech problem with two Ts or two Ds occurring close together, so he sang the second line as "On a hot-a-tot-tropic island to roam." If you listen to The Lost Chord, you'll note that he sings "And my fingers wander-dud idly over the noisy keys." Anyway, when I found a nice clean record, where he now sang line-2 as "In a far distant country to roam." I dumped the old one thinking it was a FLAWED recording. And now that I want it back again I can't find it anywhere. So, thanks, ard, but I'm looking specifically for this song sung by Peter Dawson AND with the slightly garbled "hot-a-tot-tropic island" bit, as it's PD alone that I'm interested in and not a different singer. I could kick myself now for throwing it out, because now that I'm aware of PD's speech impediment, I realise it was the genuine thing after all! Sigh! Can ANYONE please point me to "hot-a-tot"??
