Ebbie, Was it a dreadnought sized Collings - with a "sloped shoulder" (roughly same body size as your '35) or was it a smaller body? Smaller bodied instruments generally don't throw out that much bass, but some can surprise you. Smaller bodied ones are what are euphemistically termed "balanced" instead of saying "they have a real lack of bass response." Ahhhhhhhhh...marketing. :-)
