Richard Dyer-Bennet did a version of this song.
In his liner notes he quotes the Harvard
musicologist John Ward who said that the song
came from the so-called "pleasure gardens"
of outer London in the early 1700's.

Sounds like these gardens were swinging
places. Anybody know anything more
about them? Did the song originate there?
