I guess the challenge is to show English people what a wealth of folk tradition there is. I agree with Leadfingers. I'm a Scot and I remember years ago my (then) girlfriend living and working in Newcastle.I noticed that a sword team was putting on a display. She was horrified that I wanted to go and then marvelled at the skill of these guys. She now gigs in Tarney with me. There are many fine English songs and tunes and perhaps they would gain more acceptance if they were not limited to folk clubs, but taken to pubs as entertainment. In Scotland, there is a thriving popular folk scene with performers catering for tourists and Scots who would not seek out a folk club. The standard is generally pretty high and the material is very traditional for the most part. Cheers John
