Lightning is a lot more complex than people used to think. Makes me wonder that more planes don't end up toast while passing near storms. I've been in any number of planes that had to go around thunderheads--they're amazing to watch from the plane window.

The pilot in the first plane two weeks ago sounds like he was more clueless than most, but he also couldn't get through on the frequency he was directed to use. That might be a case of lightning striking twice. :)
