The Animals got their version from Dylan's first album. Dylan got it from Dave Van Ronk who got it from ...? In fact got about half the material for his first album from DVR. The Leadbelly version, melodically speaking, is quite different. Almost like a ragtime tune. Great fun as a guitar piece.
