Philippa: oops. When I double-checked, chorus lyric were "Tow-Row," not row tow. The verse starts "I went down to Dublin..." so it looks like same song. Just a guess, but "ows" of around and routed from version you cited may have gotten crunched down into nonsense words by later singers. Anyway, found it on "High Hills and Mountains" album by Jean Ritchie, who credits it to Elizabeth Cronin in County Cork. Not to creep off thread, but thanks for your posting elsewhere of the Melungeon article. |
