Perhaps it is a reference to what we call 'home brew'. The only poteen (?) I ever saw was in a quart jar. Likewise the 'home brew' here in the states. It was put in pint and quart jars. The only time it was bottled was to be 'boot-legged', that is sold to other people. The first time I heard the song I thought of the poteen in the quart jar that a friend brought as a welcoming gift. True 'fire water'. (Nasty taste!) Blessings Kat
